New Tide, the entirely renovated office building in Rotterdam, was officially opened by Ahmed Aboutaleb, mayor of Rotterdam, Stef Blok, Minister of Safety and Justice, Chief Constable Erik Akerboom and Coen van Oostrom, CEO OVG Real Estate. In its role as consultant, Deerns was responsible for all MEP systems from the start of the project up to completion.
New Tide, with 18,900 m2 office space, was previously the head office of the Dutch newspapers NRC and AD. The building dates from 1988 and has stood empty since 2012. In 2015, OVG Real Estate bought the building as a renovation project to reconnect the building to the needs and demands of future users. It was important to make the building smart and sustainable.
Sustainable and smart solutions
Thanks to the smart design of the MEP systems, the building is now highly sustainable and the energy label has improved from label E to label A. Solar panels on the roof and an ATES system ensure that energy is generated sustainably. Within the building, a climate ceiling controls the temperature, humidity and air circulation and LED lighting has been installed.
The building is now rented out to the National Police and serves as the Police Service Centre for support departments such as HR, facility services, procurement, communications, etc.
